8 Steps to Buying a Home

So you think 2023 might be the year to buy a home. So many thoughts, fears, and possibilities. It is such a big financial decision on top of all the ways it will affect your life and relationships. Figuring out what your next step should be should cause you to pause, research, and reflect. We believe wherever you are on the buying journey, you need to have a real estate professional on speed dial or more commonly on “speed text” to help in the research and reflecting.  Keep in mind, we are usually paid by the seller and not until your home purchase is complete, so there is no financial reason to wait.

 There is so much to learn, digest, and understand when buying a home. Questions include: Where to live in relation to your workplace, family, or maybe schools? How to qualify for a loan? How much will your monthly housing expense be? What makes a good house? What does a house having “good bones” mean? What is title and escrow? How long does it take to buy a house? How do I keep my down payment safe? And many more questions.

 We help you understand what questions to ask and as well as answering those questions. If it is beyond our expertise, like legal or accounting, we point you in the direction of other professionals to help you get your answers. When you hire us, we meet with you initially to cover the basics of the process and to determine what you want and need in a home. Both Sherry and Adam walk with you through out the process, guiding you through each step as you get close to completing your home buying journey. One or both of us actively show you homes until you find the right one. We will help you to answer questions and give our opinions about homes. We help explain the multiple forms required for your protection, and, ironically, designed for clarity and informed consent. We want you to have enough expertise to know what you are doing and why. To that end, we continue to inform you through a series of emails about the wide range of home buying topics you need to know. Of course, we’re always available by phone, text, or email to address any questions you might have.

 Buying a home in 2023 is going to be different than in the past few years. The local real estate market conditions have changed in favor of the buyer, but there are still challenges that buyers need to be aware of and minimize. With a more balanced market, buyers are able to take a little more time to inspect homes, either before writing an offer or during escrow itself.
